3D Illustration

Art direction / graphic design / visualization / illustration

As part of Ivy's rebranding, together with the Ivy design team and FeelFactory, we developed a new graphic system that includes several sets of illustrations. These are used for various purposes, from key images to emoji. Initially, my role in the project was to help generate ideas, but this gradually evolved into full involvement at all stages—from sketches to 3D visualization, retouching, and art direction.

Conception

The visual metaphors are based on second-order associations: complex, unfamiliar images. The illustrations combine softness and technology.

В основе визуальных метафор — ассоциации второго порядка: сложные, непривычные образы. В иллюстрациях сочетается мягкость и технологичность.

Different levels of illustration require different levels of elaboration: more complex and detailed ones are used for banners, while simpler ones are used for icons.

Для разных уровней иллюстраций предусмотрена разная степень проработки: более сложные и детализированные используются для баннеров, а более простые — для иконок.

Sketches

For each task, at least two sketches were completed, and the best idea was further developed in 3D.

На каждую задачу выполнялось минимум два скетча, и лучшая идея шла
в доработку в 3D.

3D render

Shading and rendering in Redshift, retouching in Photoshop, and, in some cases, modeling in Cinema4D

Characters

For the main icons, we tried to avoid using too many characters, lest it become too childish. But for the user profiles, we chose archetypes of popular movie characters and represented them through animal images. For example, the Terminator is represented as a bear, Indiana Jones as a bird, and The Godfather as a wolf.

Для основных иконок мы старались не использовать слишком много персонажей, чтобы не уйти в «детскость». Но для профилей пользователей выбрали архетипы популярных героев кино и показали их через образы животных. Например, Терминатор представлен в виде медведя, Индиана Джонс — как птица, а Крестный отец — в образе волка.
